About Analog Photo Today
Film never actually stopped. Analog Photo Today covers shooting it in the present tense: 35mm and 120 stocks, the cameras that still take them, wet processing at home, and the working cost of all three. The readership runs from someone loading a thrifted rangefinder for the first time to printers who know exactly how their fiber paper behaves in a warm tray. Both get the same arithmetic and the same test frames.
Most of what we publish is a guide or an explainer, built from rolls actually shot and negatives actually developed. A stock comparison here means the same scene on Portra, HP5 and a cheap gray-market emulsion, metered identically, developed in the same tank. We do not run reviews written from spec sheets, and we do not repeat forum lore about push processing without testing it. Prices, dilution ratios and development times are printed because they are the useful part.
Film handles emulsions, grain structure and how each stock renders skin; Cameras covers bodies from Leica to Lomo, including light seals and CLA costs. Darkroom is the chemistry desk: developer, stop bath, fixer, agitation, enlarger alignment. Photographers profiles the people whose negatives set the standard, while Gear tests meters, scanners, tanks and bags. Guides answers the practical questions, History follows the industry back through Kodachrome and Polaroid, Photography News reports discontinuations and new emulsions, and Business News tracks what film manufacturing and lab work now cost.
